Amazon Simple Queue Service browser

Amazon's Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) is a very useful service, especially in conjunction with their Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).

However, while there are several browsers/viewers/editors out there for S3, there do not seem to be any for SQS.

Keep an eye out for sqs.grcm.net (no, nothing there yet!).

Is Slashdot turning into a legal eagle eyrie?

There's an article on Slashdot about Intel's threading library which has recently been released under a different licence.  The licence allows more use in the outside world.

However, Slashdot, the bastion of technical gurus, seems to be descending into a haven for amateur lawyers- 90%+ of the articles are about the nuances of GPL v2 licencing which have been discussed myriad times before- very little is said about the technical qualities of the library.

The technical posts I read basically said keep with OpenMP or Fortran90...

Rails, queues and clusters

I've been looking at Ruby Queues (rq) to implement a job submission architecture.  It's a good system, with lots of development.  Version 3 came out a couple of months ago.

However, it requires NFS shared disks.  This is a bit tricky across disparate networks.  Would it work with sshfs?  I don't know.  Probably....

However, I'm going to look at Rake.  Multiple threads of work, and then I should be able to kick off remote jobs with Ruby-SSH.  Let's see.
